Damage to the transmission facility of Shin-Kori Unit 1… Manual shutdown of the reactor and regular inspection

The Kori Nuclear Power Headquarters of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power announced that the Shin-Kori Unit 1 reactor, which had a turbine generator stopped due to the impact of Typhoon Hinnamno, was manually shut down at 5 pm on the 8th.

On the 6th, Shin-Kori Unit 1 reduced its output to 79% in preparation for the impact of Typhoon No.

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) confirmed that there was no effect on the safety of the nuclear reactor after power generation was stopped.

However, after on-site inspection, KHNP discovered that the transmission-related facilities of Shin-Kori Unit 1 were damaged, and manually stopped the reactor to repair the facilities.

The facility is presumed to have been damaged by strong winds caused by typhoons, but to determine the cause more accurately, the NSSC formed an investigation team made up of experts from the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and dispatched them to the site.

The investigation team plans to check the overall safety of the facility, including the cause of damage and the adequacy of maintenance work.

In addition, KHNP decided to start the regular inspection (planned preventive maintenance), which was scheduled to be carried out on the 14th of this month, from the same day as the manual shutdown of Shin-Kori Unit 1.

In this regular inspection, the detailed cause of turbine generator shutdown and facility improvement, fuel withdrawal and reloading, reactor characteristics test, inspection and inspection of major equipment systems, such as legal inspection according to the Nuclear Safety Act and Electricity Business Act, and facility improvement will be carried out. .

The Kori Headquarters also plans to stop the turbine generators of Shin-Kori Unit 2 during the Chuseok holiday and inspect the same facilities.

Kori Units 2, 3, and 4, which were operated at lower power in preparation for the typhoon attack, have sequentially reached 100% of full power and are now operating normally.
