DAMAGED NATIONAL HERITAGE

The building where the Irapay Children’s Cultural Center works looks quite deteriorated and neglected. People who rented this property declared a National Heritage Site unaware of its cultural value.

On the façade, part of the Arabic-style zulejo tiles where the label that gives it this name is located are broken. Furthermore, it is also appreciated that these unique and luxurious souvenirs from the rubber era are not only neglected, but also scraped. While others are peeling off and were covered with paint.

We wonder if perhaps the Ministry of Culture and the authorities cannot allocate funds or hire specialists to preserve this and other assets, which, as determined by their name, constitute the Cultural Heritage of the Nation.

According to the history of our city, Casa Irapay was the official headquarters of the Portuguese Consulate in Iquitos in 1920.
