Dams: SMEs give “a pat on the back” from Legault

2023-10-25 01:50:23

The majority of small and medium-sized business owners support the Legault government’s desire to build new hydroelectric dams.

“Three out of five SME managers are in favor of the construction of new dams. They are giving the Prime Minister a pat on the back,” François Vincent, vice-president for Quebec of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB), assured LCN, reporting the results of a survey conducted by his organization. .

The government has already mentioned, on several occasions, that Quebec might need around a hundred more terawatt-hours (TWh) by 2050 to meet its needs.

“Business leaders are business people. They need to plan for the future. They know how it works. We are faced with a choice that we must make now, because a dam takes around ten years to build,” argued Mr. Vincent to explain the CFIB’s position.

At the same time, companies assure that they are ready to contribute to the energy effort. According to the survey, “63% [des PME] want to participate in programs to reduce their consumption during peak periods,” underlined the vice-president.
