Died in February 2022 in the residence of his mother, Daniel Marino, the owner of the Mega Fitness Gym who made headlines for his opposition to health measures during the pandemic, is said to have died of an acute myocardial infarction.

This is at least what reveals the report of the coroner Monique Tremblay, released Wednesday morning, which concludes with a natural death.
“All the evidence collected during my investigation indicates that Mr. Marino died of heart disease,” she explains.
Recall that the 57-year-old man was found lifeless in his bed on February 3, 2022, while he was at his mother’s house in Boischatel. Resuscitation maneuvers initiated by his relatives and continued by first aid were ineffective.
No indication of theft, violence or break-in had been noted on the scene by the Sûreté du Québec and no traumatic or suspicious lesion was observed on the remains of the deceased.
Health problems
In his report, Mr.e Tremblay explains that Daniel Marino had been in Mexico since November 2021, but returned to Quebec on January 28 due to health issues.
His daughter had moreover confided to the Journal that he had Crohn’s disease, affecting his immune system from a young age. The coroner also points out that he suffered from ulcerative colitis and an anxiety disorder.

According to relatives, the man’s health seemed particularly poor on his return to the province, which is why he had consulted his doctor three days before his death.
“An autopsy […] revealed an atherosclerotic disease compatible with an acute myocardial infarction, an occlusive acute coronary thrombosis in the circumflex artery and severe coronary atherosclerosis,” reports M.e Tremblay.
Several controversies
Dan Marino made a name for himself in June 2020 when he decided to open his gym on avenue Saint-Jean-Baptiste despite the ban in force due to the pandemic.
A few months later, the establishment was linked to hundreds of cases of COVID-19 and about ten deaths, direct or indirect. He himself was hospitalized for complications related to the virus during this period.
More recently, the Méga Fitness Gym was bought by entrepreneur Raphaël Provost, who took on the challenge of restoring its image. The establishment will henceforth be known as La Cité Fitness.
