Infectious diseases are sending a warning signal about the rise in childhood diseases, such as whooping cough, measles and strep.

Specifically, since the beginning of the year, there have been 34 cases of whooping cough, while two infants died from this disease. Experts emphasize that pregnant women should be vaccinated during the third trimester of pregnancy.
At the same time, measles is on the rise, as 19 cases have been detected, with most of them being in Athens and Thessaloniki and involving 40-45 year olds.
At least 27 people died from strep, namely 16 adults and 11 children in the year 2023 – 2024.
As noted by the infectious disease specialist, Sotiris Tsiodras, at the press conference for the start of the 23rd Panhellenic Conference of the Hellenic Society of Infectious Diseases, as soon as patients show the first symptoms they should be vigilant.
“We are not justified in having measles epidemics in 2024″, stressed the Professor and President of the Hellenic Society of Infections, explaining that the reason for this year’s increased cases in Europe is due to a vaccination gap. “Low uptake of Covid vaccination is due to misinformation. Unfortunately, it’s not just about Covid. As a tragic example, we are recording epidemics of measles, diphtheria and whooping cough,” noted Mr. Tsiodras.
