With an extensive career spanning more than 30 years, Dr. Carlos Daniel Campos Torres, specialist in General Surgery serves as director of the Faculty of Medicine, Torreón Unit since last March 10 when he took protest.
Graduated from said institution, he completed a postgraduate course in General Surgery in the city of Monterreylater traveled to Houston, Florida and New York to continue preparing returning to Torreón to develop his professional activity as a doctor of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) for 30 years, as well as professor of the surgery residency.
And teaching as well as private practice where he is an expert in bariatric, gastroenterological and laparoscopic surgeryare part of his daily work, and today he holds the position of director at the Faculty of Medicine, “now that I am not in any public institution I have dedicated myself to teaching in this Faculty, as well as working in the University Hospital“, said.
He emphasizes that “it’s my turn serve my alma materthe place that I want, that made me a doctor, I want to be here and see what I can do for my school, for my boys and leave something for them“.
Campos Torres remembers those days when he ran through the corridors of the Faculty, “I was about 19 years old and that feeling generated in me greater commitment now that I am in this managerial position, for which I want to leave something for the institution, we are also in charge of the University Hospital and Children’s Hospital“.
Doctor Carlos Daniel points out that the most important project will be implement the new educational model that marks the Autonomous University of Coahuila“we have a work plan in the academic, administrative, and infrastructure areas. At the University Hospital we have many areas for improvementwe are going to start doing everything possible to improve the situation of this space”.
Regarding the Children’s Hospital, he says that it is a space with a lot of history, benchmark in La Laguna“he has taken care of many children for years and is a pride for the Faculty, so we must help it continue to improve and little by little the government areas will be formed for everything that is to be undertaken”.
Campos Torres will shortly begin the meetings with teachers to make them aware of the new educational model, with the hope that the following semester or at the latest in a year will offer the full implementation.

Refering to high demand of the institution for new admissions, Dr. Carlos Daniel affirms that this situation generates pride and sorrow. First of all, because the high academic level of the Faculty has been recognized for many years.
“Recently, the results of the graduates who presented the national exam of Ceneval, Egel resulting with more than 80 percent with high academic leveljust like him National Examination of Medical Residencies that is carried out at the federal level the boys had a high percentage of passing the test and gaining access to a postgraduate course“.
However, Campos Torres says that unfortunately no there is infrastructure, budget and teaching capacity that allows to increase the enrollment number for admission to the Faculty.
Finally he said that “we are to serve our boys, to maintain and raise the academic level of the College and hospitals. That’s why our students chose us, in the elections we got more than 92 percent approval from the students thereby generating a great responsibilitysince that means that they are expecting a good job from us”.
