“About 2,500 people to 3,000 people is the daily flow of migrants through the Darien jungle”

Panama will develop an international campaign called “Darién is not a route, it is a jungle”, due to the constant migrations that have occurred and that are becoming more and more acute.

“Around 2,500 to 3,000 people is the daily flow of migrants through the Darien jungle,” Security Minister Juan Pino said at a press conference.

So far this year, 308,000 migrants have transited through Darién, the majority coming from Venezuela, Ecuador and Haiti, and the number of Chinese migrants has increased.

This represents ecological, environmental and health damage for the host communities. “Of that percentage of migrants, 21% are children and of that percentage, 50% are children under five years of age,” said Samira Gozaine, director of the National Migration Service.
