dark mode would soon become much easier to access

Microsoft would plan to install, in the Action Center of Windows 11, a command to switch at will and easily between the light and dark modes of the system.

No automatic switching between light and dark modes under Windows 11…and no way to quickly switch between them either. We learn from Neowin that Microsoft would nevertheless intend to solve at least one of these two problems. The specialized site indeed reports that the firm would consider installing directly in the Action center (which you find by clicking at the bottom right of your screen) of Windows 11 a new command dedicated to dark mode. The latter would enable / disable dark mode in one click, as desired, and without tedious back and forth in the settings.

Discovered by Zac Bowden, journalist for Windows Centralthis novelty certainly does not allow you to activate an automatic switch (yet very requested) but at least has the merit of making the dark mode of Windows 11 more accessible than it is at present.

A novelty currently in the testing phase…

Note that at this stage, this novelty only seems to be on trial with certain members of the Insider program. The screenshot provided by Zac Bowden also shows this function active on build 25204 of Windows 11, which has never been deployed, specifies Neowin. A priori, Microsoft is therefore content for the moment to experiment with a new way of easily accessing the dark mode.

It is unknown at this stage whether or not Microsoft will decide to deploy this feature on a large scale on its operating system. That said, given the expectation and demand around such a function, it would be surprising if the firm ultimately chooses to abandon it.

Note that it is however possible to activate automatic dark mode on Windows 11 through a third-party application: Auto Dark Mode. Available on the Microsoft Store and on GitHubthis free app does a good job of replacing a feature that Microsoft would have long had to implement natively on Windows 11.
