daughter sues for attempted murder

One of the daughters of former Angolan President José Eduardo dos Santos has filed a complaint for attempted homicide against her father, hospitalized in Barcelona in critical condition, we learned on Tuesday from his lawyers and the police.

Tchizé dos Santos has filed a complaint in Barcelona for an investigation to be opened for, among other things, “presumed attempted homicide, failure to assist a person in danger, injuries caused by gross negligence”, indicated the two law firms advising the daughter of the former Angolan president.

According to one of her lawyers, she believes that her father’s wife, Ana Paula, and the ex-president’s personal doctor are responsible for the deterioration of her health.

Hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the Teknon clinic, José Eduardo dos Santos has been in critical condition since a cardiac arrest on June 23, according to his family.

Tchizé dos Santos claims, according to his lawyers, that his father and his wife had been separated for a while and that she has no decision-making power over his health because their marriage is not legally recognized in Spain. .

Contacted by AFP, the Catalan regional police confirmed that they had registered a complaint concerning the situation of the former Angolan dignitary and indicated that they had opened an investigation, but without giving further details.

In order to protect his father’s safety, Tchizé dos Santos, 44, demands that only the ex-president’s children can visit him.

And she also asks the Spanish authorities to ensure her protection, as well as that of her children who left Angola because of friction with the current president João Lourenço, ex-dolphin of dos Santos.

Dos Santos, 79, ruled the Portuguese-speaking, oil-rich state for 38 years until his departure in September 2017.

Born in a slum in the capital Luanda, he is accused of having largely diverted Angolan resources by favoring his family and relatives. Another of her daughters, Isabel, is considered the richest woman in Africa.

Since coming to power in 2017, João Lourenço has launched a campaign to recover billions allegedly embezzled under his predecessor’s long presidency.
