The ÖFB team captain apparently suffered a muscle injury and had to be substituted shortly before half-time in Real Madrid’s 2-0 win against Las Palmas.

David Alaba, the next regular player in the Austrian national soccer team, is in danger of being out of the upcoming European Championship qualifying games. The defender had to leave the field five minutes before the half-time whistle in Real Madrid’s 2-0 home win against Las Palmas on Wednesday evening. Alaba apparently sustained a muscle injury in his leg without any outside influence.

The league leader in La Liga is surprisingly called Girona after seven rounds. The still unbeaten Catalan team, which finished last season as a promoted team in tenth place, won away against Villarreal 2-1 and thus moved past FC Barcelona. The previous leader had only played 2-2 against Real Mallorca the day before. Real won with goals from Brahim Diaz (45th) and Joselu (54th) and are now second. Girona and Real face each other in the top game on Saturday.

October internationals without Arnautovic

The ÖFB team will face Belgium in Vienna on October 13th, and three days later they will face Azerbaijan in Baku. Marko Arnautovic, who suffered a muscle injury in his thigh while playing for Inter Milan at the weekend, is already out. Michael Gregoritsch was recently absent from the offensive department for Freiburg due to a calf injury. There are also injuries to Stefan Posch, Marcel Sabitzer, Florian Grillitsch and Phillipp Mwene. (APA)
