Two dead in Russia in fire caused by fallout from downed drones

Two people were killed following the fall of debris from a drone shot down by Russia overnight in the Belgorod region, bordering Ukraine, the local governor announced early Thursday, October 12.

“The air defense system in the Belgorod district shot down an aircraft-type drone that was approaching the city”Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram, adding in another message that“following the fall of debris, a residential building was completely destroyed, two others were partially damaged”.

“Unfortunately, there are deaths. The bodies of two people – a man and a woman – were found under the rubble by emergency services »said the governor.

Two other people were injured and hospitalized, according to Mr. Gladkov. A man is in a coma while a woman in serious condition suffered a concussion, he said.

Early Thursday, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Telegram that Russian air defense had “foiled” a drone attack carried out by kyiv in the Belgorod region on Wednesday around 11:50 p.m. local time (10:50 p.m. French time), without reporting possible injuries or damage.
