“Deadly Magnitude 6.3 Earthquake Strikes Japan: Updates and Information”

(CNN) — At least one person died and 12 were injured following the magnitude 6.3 earthquake that struck Japan on Friday, local authorities told CNN.

The victim died following falling from a ladder, the Ishikawa Prefectural Office reported.

The earthquake struck near the city of Noto in Ishikawa Prefecture at a depth of 10 km, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. A 6.3-magnitude quake struck Ishikawa Prefecture and surrounding areas of central Japan this Friday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The strong quake prompted Japan’s prime minister’s office to set up an emergency office, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno told a news conference. The office is assessing the damage to people and property, Matsuno added.

No abnormalities were detected at nearby nuclear power plants, Matsuno said.
