Deadly Russian attacks in Ukraine continue

kyiv, Ukraine (AP) — Russian airstrikes in eastern Ukraine killed at least 12 people on Monday as rescuers in the city of Dnipro dug through rubble following a Russian strike hit a nine-story residential building, killing one person, officials said.

The attacks come as Russia continues to test Ukrainian forces at several points along the 1,000-kilometer front.

Moscow has stepped up its airstrikes in an attempt to deplete Ukraine’s resources, often targeting energy facilities and other crucial infrastructure.

The shelling of the front-line village of Niu-York in Donetsk region also left five people wounded, said Governor Vadym Filashkin, who said Russian forces had shelled populated areas 13 times in the past 24 hours.

Seven more people were killed in Russian airstrikes on the town of Vilniansk on Saturday followingnoon, including two children, Governor Ivan Fedorov said.

Ten more people were injured and infrastructure was also damaged, Fedorov said on social media.

Meanwhile, an attack by a Ukrainian drone killed five people in Russia’s Kursk region, local authorities reported yesterday.

Among the dead from the Ukrainian attack in Gorodishche on the border between the two countries were two minors, regional governor Alexey Smirnov said on social media.
