Deadly swerve in Bellechasse: a motorist in his twenties lost his life

A violent exit from the road cost the life of a young motorist in Saint-Philémon, in Bellechasse, on the night of Monday to Tuesday. His passenger was also seriously injured.

The accident occurred around 11 p.m. on route 281 southbound, not far from the intersection of rang Saint-Arthur, in the small municipality located in Chaudière-Appalaches.

The driver reportedly lost control before deviating from his lane and swerving to the side. No other vehicle was reportedly involved.

“The two men in their twenties were transported to the hospital center for serious injuries,” explains Béatrice Dorsainville, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The death of the driver was unfortunately noted shortly after, while the passenger’s condition stabilized.

Route 281 was closed until 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning to clear debris and allow investigators time to do their job.

The provincial police force also reports that speed may have played a role in this case. We also cannot rule out the possibility that the driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol during the accident.

“An autopsy is likely to be carried out shortly to analyze this hypothesis,” says Ms. Dorsainville.
