At least three people died and around 100 were injured as a powerful tornado ripped through a North Texas town on Thursday, which also caused widespread destruction, media reports said.
Several southern and midwestern states have been placed on severe weather alert as dangerous storms fueled by high temperatures hit the region.
They caused tornadoes, thunderstorms and hail the size of golf balls.
Not unusual
A powerful tornado hit Perryton, a town in Texas. Fire Chief Paul Dutcher told > that three people died and about 100 others were treated at local hospitals with minor to serious injuries.
Tornadoes, meteorological phenomena as impressive as they are difficult to predict, are common in the United States, especially in the center and south of the country.
