Deaths exceeded 11,000; 10 Indians stuck in Turkey

ISTANBUL – The death toll in Turkey and Syria, which has been hit by an earthquake, has passed 11,000. Even after 3 days, the search for those trapped in the rubble is still going on. The hope that there would be any survivors among them began to fade.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, 10 Indians are stranded in the interior of Turkey and one is missing. After the earthquake, 75 Indians contacted the Ministry for help. It is estimated that there are around 3,000 Indians in Turkey.

Disaster management teams from 25 countries, including India, have joined the rescue operation in Turkey and Syria. India’s assistance mission to Turkey and Syria was named ‘Operation Dost’ (Friend). India has opened control rooms in Istanbul and Adana in Turkey. A special flight of the Air Force brought 6 tons of goods including medicines to Syria yesterday. Damaged roads and extreme cold at night are hampering rescue operations.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan visited the rehabilitation center in Kahramanmaras, southern Turkey. There is public anger against Erdogan as relief efforts stall.
