The second autopsy rules out the hypothesis derived from the first official autopsy issued by the Nuevo Leon Prosecutor’s Officewhich indicates that the cause of death was a possible accident.

Debanhi Escobar disappeared on April 9 and was found dead two weeks later in the state of Nuevo León, in Mexico.

Previously, the authorities of the state of New Lion had revealed that no water was found inside Debanhi’s lungsso the possibility was opened that the young woman had fallen into the tank alive, which would be ruled out after the second expert report.

According to El País, the second forensic opinion —which analyzes the images of the medical examination of the corpse, diagnostic tests and conclusions— indicates that Debanhi Escobar’s body showed signs of sexual violence. A fact that the first autopsy did not mention or analyze. Nor did the Prosecutor’s Office report it, which has had the independent report, requested by the Escobar family, since May 2. “The body shows traces of a vaginal, violent and recent sexual relationship”, explain the text. “This is deduced from having found violaceous ecchymoses and bruises” in the outer area of ​​the genitals.

The most serious injury, which caused his death, was a hard impact on the right frontal region of the skull. But the second autopsy goes further. Debanhi He had more head injuries and not just one, as the conclusion of the first autopsy that was made public seemed to suggest, according to El País.

“Violaceous ecchymoses on both sides of the frontal region of the skull, on the right and left eyelids, on the left side of the nose, on both lips, above the right ear and the right retroauricular region”says the document.

According to the manner of death described by the doctor, “the craniofacial contusions are of external origin to the body and because they are intense, repeated [en varias ocasiones] and with different angles of impact, it follows that they were caused by another person and that it is a violent homicidal death”. The coroner specifies that it must have been with a “blunt mechanical agent”, that is, she was not hit with a sharp weapon.

Debanhi Escobar did not drown. No “liquid inside the trachea and bronchi” was found, so the coroner ruled out death by drowning. And he points out: “He was already lifeless at the time of entering the water of the place where the body was found.”

Nor does he observe injuries to the neck, carotids, or the hyoid bone, so he also rules out death by suffocation or strangulation. Neither obstruction of the respiratory openings, nor of the airways, nor of “thoracoabdominal compression, nor of burial, nor of confinement”, therefore, it also rules out asphyxiation due to suffocation, indicates El País.

VERSION OF AN ACCIDENT

In case of Debanhi aroused national and international commotion due to the image that went viral of her abandoned on the highway on April 9 in the northern municipality of Escobedo, after leaving a party and taking a taxi.

At the end of April, the Prosecutor’s Office showed some videos to the media that began after the last photograph taken by the taxi driver, at 4:26 in the morning, who was transferring Debanhi and left her on the road.

In the videos, the young woman is seen going to a trucking company, but it is not seen that she enters the premises. Minutes later he goes to the Nueva Castilla motel, where the young woman walks through the patio of the place, and according to the prosecutors she goes “to the area of ​​​​the cistern”, where her body was located.

That day the Prosecutor’s Office reiterated that the cause of death of the young woman was the product of a “deep skull contusion” impact that the necropsy located in the forehead.

Despite this, prosecutor Gustavo Adolfo Guerrero reiterated that “no line of investigation is ruled out, including a murder by organized crime.”

However, one of the lines of research is that Debanhi accidentally fell into the hotel cisternsince the videos do not show that anyone was following her or was with her.

The young woman’s father, Mario Escobar, suspected of sexual abuse and rejecting the versions of the state prosecutor’s office, ordered a second autopsy to be carried out on his own.

Debanhi’s case has caused a stir in Mexico, a country in which, on average, more than 10 women are murdered every day and in 2021 there were more than 1,000 femicides, gender-based crimes.

So far this year, the state of Nuevo León has registered a wave of disappearances with at least thirty women still unaccounted for.
