On Tuesday, May 2, Shaare Zedek Medical Center, the Hatikva group and the Puah Institute organized a great event at the Monte Sinai Cultural Center, with the participation of Salomón Chertorivsky, Mexican politician and economist.

Personalities from the community sphere of the Jewish community also attended, among them Elías Fasja, President of the Council of Friends Shaare Zedek México.

Regarding assisted reproduction, should we do everything we can? What are the consequences? Where does the line pass? What is the fine line between taking advantage of innovations in parenting and at the same time understanding that we are dealing with the creation of new human beings, not simply building blocks?

These are the questions with which the rabanit Goldie Katz Samson– adviser of the Jewish Law and expert in fertility problems, resident in Israel – started the debate, in which two physicians specialized in assisted reproduction and two rabbis gave their opinion on 3 specific cases of patients.

The two doctors are Dr Alex Cava, medical specialist in gynecology, obstetrics, gynecological endocrinology and human reproduction, expert in high-risk pregnancies and fertility; and Dr. Alberto Kabli, President of the Mexican College of Gynecology and Obstetrics Specialists.

the rabbis are David Kabaz and Daniel Crediboth graduates of the Machon Torah of Mount Sinai and specialists in the field of Halacha and family.

the first case is a young couple, with no medical history of fertility problems, six months trying to get pregnant. Do you want to do an in vitro fertilization explore the possibility of an early pregnancy.

the second case It is that of a couple who wants to have an in vitro preimplantation diagnostic treatment simply to be able to choose the sex of the baby.

the third case It is about the status of the embryos that are stored after the fertilization process.

Listen to this incredible debate and the conference by Jonathan Halevy, “Ethics and medicine in the field of fertility” who followed him.
