Decided to break up Won the Best Picture Award at the Grand Bell Awards… Best Actor and Actress Park Hae-il, Yum Jung-ah

Director Seong-hyeon Byun of ‘Kingmaker’ for Best Director… ‘National Actor’ Ahn Seong-gi Achievement Award

At the 58th Grand Bell Awards, director Park Chan-wook’s film ‘Decision to Break Up’ won three awards, including Best Picture.

At the Grand Bell Film Awards held on the 9th at Konkuk University’s New Millennium Hall, “Decision to Break Up” won Best Actor (Park Hae-il) and Screenplay (Park Chan-wook, Jeong Seo-kyung) in addition to Best Picture.

Director Park, who is staying in Los Angeles for an overseas filming schedule, expressed his gratitude through a voice message that day.

Director Park said, “I feel like I’ve received a big gift at the end of the year.”

He added, “More than anyone else, the faces of the two actors, Park Hae-il and Tang Wei, come to mind first, and I want to see many other actors and staff. Thank you to the many audiences who loved ‘Decision to Break Up’.”

After receiving the Best Actor trophy from fellow actor Lee Byung-hun, actor Park Hae-il said, “As an actor, curiosity was the biggest driving force for me when dealing with movies.”

The Best Actress Award went to Yum Jeong-ah for her role in ‘Life is Beautiful’.

Yeom Jung-ah said, “I am honored to receive the trophy from teacher Lee Soon-jae.” “‘Life is Beautiful’ was a work that gave me great happiness throughout the show.

Thank you everyone,” he said.

‘Life is Beautiful’ also won three categories, including Best Actress and Music Award (Kim Jun-seok), as well as the ‘New Wave Award for Best Actor’ (Ong Seong-wu) given to a new actor who has shown good acting this year.

‘Criminal City 2’ also received three awards, including Best Cinematography (Joo Seong-rim), Best Editing (Kim Seon-min), and the ‘People’s Award for Best Actor’ (Park Ji-hwan) given to an actor who has shown remarkable acting in the year.

The Best Director award went to Byun Seong-hyeon, who directed ‘Kingmaker’.

The Achievement Award given to a filmmaker who has contributed to the development of Korean cinema was given to Ahn Seong-ki, a ‘national actor’ who was saddened by the news of his recent battle with cancer.

Ahn Sung-ki, who could not come to the awards ceremony, expressed his gratitude through a pre-recorded video message.

The Grand Bell Awards have suffered crippling in recent years due to disputes over fairness and internal conflicts, but this year, filmmakers took the lead and declared reform and renewal.

The preliminary examination method, which had been operated as an entry system, was changed to a selection system, and a national jury was also introduced.

Instead of removing the practice of awarding the award on behalf of film officials or acquaintances if the winner is unable to attend, the organizer decided to deliver the trophy directly to the winner at a later date.

The Grand Bell Awards Ceremony was so well received that most of the 800-seat venues were filled.

Although not many nominees for awards in each category attended, only a few of the winners did not attend, showing a change from the past when large-scale absenteeism occurred.
