Decision to block the SIMs of those who do not submit tax returns after Eid – Business & Economy

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has finalized the plan to block 5 lakh SIMs of mobile phones of non-filers and under-filers after Eid-ul-Fitr while taking strict action against tax evaders.

An English newspaper quoted top government sources as saying that in consultation with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, preparations have been made to identify 4 lakh under-filers, those who have not filed their returns despite having taxable income.

Top government sources also claimed that the FBR will issue the Income Tax General Order (IGTO) after Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Federal Board of Revenue had also sent notices to such persons but still the returns were not submitted by them.

Sources said that one lakh non-filers have been identified from FBR’s Broadening to Tax base and their SIMs will also be blocked.
