Publisher Ghost Ship Publishing announced on February 14th that the roguelite autoshooter “Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor‘ has started early access distribution. The supported platform is PC (Steam). The game has quickly attracted many players and is off to a good start.

“Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor” is a single-player roguelite auto-shooter that is a spin-off of the popular mining FPS “Deep Rock Galactic.” The game supports Japanese display. The player takes on the role of a dwarf employee of a mining company and takes on a mining mission on the planet HOXXES.

There are currently four classes available for player characters: scout, gunner, driller, and engineer, each of which has three subclasses. Characteristics such as the weapons used and various statuses are different. Then, ride a drop pod and land on a randomly generated stage to fight hordes of ferocious insects attacking from all directions. There are currently three types of stage environments, which can be unlocked as you progress through the game, including character classes.

The basic gameplay of this work can be said to be similar to Vampire Survivors. Weapons fire automatically, including aiming, and you earn upgrades by accumulating experience points and leveling up. You can improve your stats such as attack power and reload speed, and acquire new weapons. In the stage, developments such as an onslaught of insects occur as time passes, and the stage is cleared by defeating the boss that finally appears. However, from there you must return to the drop pod within the time limit. Then we move on to a stage even deeper underground. On the other hand, if you die, you lose upgrades along the way and have to start over.

A unique feature of this work is the mining element. The rocks that form walls that separate areas within the stage can be broken down with a pickaxe, allowing you to create an escape route when surrounded by insects. In addition, various types of ore are hidden within the rocks, and ore is needed to purchase upgrades and recovery at the shop you visit between stages, or to unlock permanent enhancements. It is important to actively acquire ore while fighting insects.

This work will be available for early access on Steam on February 14th. At the time of writing, approximately 2,300 user reviews have been submitted, with 83% of them giving the product a “very positive” status. Although it is a follow-up to “Vampire Survivors,” it has been well received for its gameplay that incorporates elements from the original “Deep Rock Galactic.” On the other hand, unfavorable reviews point out that the variety and effects of upgrades along the way are unsatisfactory.

Looking at the number of concurrently connected players, it reached approximately 17,000 at its peak on the first day of release (SteamDB). This number is in the top 100 on Steam as a whole, so it can be said that it is doing quite well. It may be that a lot of fans of the popular game “Deep Rock Galactic” are playing it.

『Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor』は、PC(Steam) is now available for early access. Regarding the future of this work, it is expected that it will take about six months to a year until its official release, and it is said that new content will be added and balance adjustments will be made during this time.
