More than seven out of every hundred e-scooters quickly break down and become the subject of a warranty claim.

You may have already experienced it yourself: reliability is not always there when ordering items online. Electronic products are the most affected. With 7.2% of in-store returns within the warranty period, electric scooters are in first place in this sad hit parade. In any case, this is the conclusion of a report by Galaxus and Digitec, two Swiss e-commerce giants, published on Thursday. Next come hoverboards (5%), baby monitors (3%) and headphones (2.2%).

More fragile electronics

Fortunately, not all products are so problematic. On average, only four out of a thousand orders were returned. But the figure fluctuates greatly depending on the type of product. “Obviously, electronic devices are more likely to break down than pans or tennis rackets,” says Lauritz Fricke, Digitec and Galaxus after-sales service manager.

bad behavior

According to Guilhem Gobillion, electric scooter specialist at KissMyWheels in Lausanne, “at least 70% of e-scooter returns are due to misuse, rather than a manufacturing defect. When buying online, we are not informed of everything to check: the pressure and wear of the tires, the condition of the brakes or the importance of carrying out a service every 700-1000 km .”

Problem, to activate its right to the guarantee, it is sometimes the cross and the banner. Between the paperwork and the return deadlines, the process is discouraging. For our repairer, the solution is obvious: “The bottom of the range is disposable. It is essential to find a specialized store to ensure quality follow-up.”
