Denmark’s handball players are just one step away from their third world title in a row. The winner of 2019 and 2021 made it into the final on Sunday (8:30 p.m.) in Stockholm with a 26:23 (3:10 p.m.) once morest Spain, who came second in the European Championship. The opponent was determined in the evening in the second semi-final between European champions Sweden and Olympic champions France.
With a 4-0 run in the final minutes of the first half, the Danes created a seemingly reassuring cushion at the break. A five-goal lead lasted until 20 minutes before the end. But then the Scandinavians failed to score for almost nine minutes. The Spaniards – European champions in 2018 and 2020 – took advantage of the weak phase and came within a goal. In the final phase, however, the defending world champion tightened up once more and scored four times in a row – the preliminary decision.
