Nicolás Maduro reported this Wednesday that Rafael Lacava; Governor of the Carabobo state, Jorge Rodríguez; President of the National Assembly of 2020, and Delcy Rodríguez, Vice President of the Republic, tested positive for coronavirus.

The pro-government leader called for the reinforcement of biosecurity and prevention measures against the coronavirus.

«We have Rafael Lacava, Jorge Rodríguez and Delcy Rodríguez with coronavirus. Although there are tools against the virus, we must continue with the measures. I call on Venezuelans to reinforce biosecurity and prevention measures,” said.

And he warned: “This week we reached 5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the cases are growing.”

Omicron subvariant BA.5 in Venezuela

Delcy Rodríguez, vice president of the government of Nicolás Maduro, announced on July 16 that the ómicron BA.5 subvariant is circulating in the country. For this reason, she called on citizens to get vaccinated or to reinforce their immunization schedules against covid-19.

“We are at a time of growth in cases due to the circulation of an omicron variant, BA.5, which is giving rise to cases throughout the world and is circulating in our country.” This was stated by Rodríguez during a visit to a health center in Carabobo state.

In the last week, Venezuela has doubled the number of new daily infections, whose figures remain low compared to the rest of the world. This Tuesday, according to the official report, the country added 326 infections and 2 deaths from this disease.

Both the World Health Organization and experts and epidemiologists have been insisting for months on not lowering their guard with diagnostic tests in the entire population because, although to a lesser extent, the new omicron variants were already present on the scene and have been gaining ground .
