Investigations into racism, Nazism, homophobia and all types of discrimination that constitute a crime have almost always, in recent years, in Rio Grande do Sul, been directly coordinated by police chief Andréa Mattos.
Andréa was the holder of the Police Station to Combat Intolerance, since the creation of the body, in December 2020. And since then, she has also been fighting cancer that killed her last Friday (14).

The public sector loses a fearless servant, defender of freedoms, at just 42 years old. The delegate had been dedicated to investigating Nazi groups in Rio Grande do Sul and was responsible for arresting militants who disseminated Hitler’s ideas in conjunction with criminals from other states, mainly Santa Catarina.
He worked in partnership with deputy Leonel Radde (PT), also a police officer, in an attempt to contain the advance of neo-Nazi cells in the south of the country.
Ten days ago, on Radde’s initiative, Andréa had received the Medal of Merit Farroupilha at the Legislative Assembly. The deputy, recognized as the greatest Nazi fighter in the state, wrote on Twitter:
“Sad day for the anti-fascist fight and against all kinds of prejudice. Our friend and warrior, Delegate Andréa Mattos, has just passed away after a long fight against cancer. May her example of life and work serve us
lighthouse forever. I miss you so much”.
She was a woman in a high-stakes research field dominated by far-right machos.
The question that remains is the most obvious and disturbing: who will replace this exemplary policewoman in the task of facing racists, homophobes, Nazis and fascists in general?
