Delhaize store blocking actions resumed this Saturday. This is the case in Brussels in several stores. This is also the case in the south of the country in Enghien, Mons, Aywaille, Montigny-le-Tilleul.
At the beginning of March, on the 7th, Delhaize management announced its intention to convert all 128 stores still managed directly by Delhaize to franchise status.
In the first weeks of the conflict, the unions organized numerous store blockades. Over time, the group’s management obtained court rulings prohibiting the holding of pickets to block stores.
Ten days ago, the unions had obtained a first victory while justice canceled the ordinance which gave reason to the management of Delhaize.
There remained, however, an order which was valid for the whole country and which prevented all blocking actions until this weekend. This ordinance is no longer effective today, which leaves the field free for the unions to organize blocking actions again.
Already on Friday evening, two stores were blocked in Brussels. This Saturday, we witnessed an extension of blocking actions.
In some cases, confusion reigned. Bailiffs, sometimes accompanied by the police, had the pickets lifted. According to Belga, this was the case in Enghien, for example, because in Hainaut, a new order was issued this Saturday morning. “A new ordinance was issued this morning, for Hainaut only, stipulating that we cannot prevent access to the site“, commented the national secretary of the CNE for the commercial sector, Myriam Djegham. “Once again, the bailiff has an exaggerated interpretation of the judgment and deduces from it that we cannot be on the territory of Delhaize. It is overzealous. The police advised us to stand on the sidewalk opposite“, out of the land owned by the company.
In Brussels, the stores of Chazal (Schaerbeek), Arbre Ballon (Jette), Debroux (Auderghem), Boondael and Flagey (Ixelles) were also the target of actions. THE “nine stores are more or less affected. We do everything to guarantee their access and keep them open“, for his part commented the spokesperson for the sign, Roel Dekelver, who specifies that the bailiffs sent are content to “note the events”.
Indeed, as the RTBF teams have noted, in Brussels, the bailiffs have no new order on which to rely to lift the picket lines. “There was an order that ended yesterday. Normally, there are no more“, points out Denis Delpart, Setca delegate in Brussels. “We had a visit from a bailiff this morning. We talked to him. He admitted to us that he unfortunately did not have a prescription. He tried to reopen the store at all costs but as the legislation is not in his favor, we have the right to close the store again“, continues the trade unionist.
