“Delhaize Stores Vandalized: Collective Protests Against Franchising and Calls for Boycott”

Several Delhaize stores across the country were vandalized overnight from Friday to Saturday, said the supermarket chain, confirming an anonymous statement to this effect sent by a collective. The company condemns these damages and has filed a complaint with the police. Several bailiffs’ studies were also targeted.

The actions of the collective took the form of paint sprays or tags with a message on the storefronts or facades of stores. There were also oil spills, jammed locks or broken glass, according to the list compiled by the collective.

Delhaize confirms these downgrades, which affected the branches in Ghent, Beersel, Flagey (Ixelles), Boondael (Ixelles), Mons, Fragnée (Liège) and Saint-Lambert (Liège). The brand says it deplores these acts of vandalism and has filed a complaint. All the stores are however open this Saturday, she assures.

Several studies of bailiffs were also targeted, as evidenced by the photos sent by the anonymous collective. The latter thus intended to denounce the penalty payments ordered following the strike movement which affected the company after its announcement, at the beginning of March, of wanting to franchise all of its 128 integrated stores.

These actions, he explains, “want to defend the right to strike, fight against the ultra-liberalization of society and call for a boycott of Delhaize stores”.
