Delhi Jama Masjid bans women from entering alone; After the controversy, the governing body removed the notice

New Delhi: Notice banning women from entering Delhi Jama Masjid alone or in groups. The governing body posted a notice banning women from outside the mosque.

But after the incident became controversial, the governing body withdrew the ban for women. The ban was lifted on the request of the Lt Governor of Delhi.

A few days ago the notice was posted above the three gates to the mosque. It was written in the notice that ‘Girls and women are prohibited from entering the mosque alone or in groups’.

The notice also states that if women want to enter the Jama Masjid complex, they must be accompanied by a male member of their family.

Jama Masjid’s public relations officer Sabiullah Khan said that the ban is to prevent women from filming the scenes of the mosque on mobile phones and posting them on social media because it disturbs those who come for prayers.

However, when the incident led to widespread protests, Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmad Bukhari came forward with an explanation that the order does not apply to those who come to offer prayers.

A church is a place of worship. But it is not right for girls to wait in church to meet their boyfriend. In the controversy, the imam said that women of any age can enter the mosque for worship and there is no hindrance.

The National Commission for Women had also registered a case on its own initiative in the incident. Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal responded that a notice will be issued to the Jama Masjid administration and no one has the right to issue such a ban.
