New Delhi: ED raids AAP leader Sanjay Singh’s house in a case related to state government’s liquor policy. ED officials visited Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh’s house early in the morning. Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in February in the case. After this, the central agency has now targeted another AAP leader.

The case was registered in the backdrop of allegations of corruption related to the Delhi government’s liquor policy of 2012-22 and the CBI has started an investigation. Then the government had to withdraw the liquor policy. In April, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was questioned for nine hours in connection with the case.

The CBI found that there was interference of liquor companies in the policy making and there was a situation where the companies were getting 12 percent profit. The CBI also alleged that the liquor lobby known as ‘South Group’ paid huge bribes for this. The CBI also claims that out of the 12 percent profit, 6 percent went to public servants through middlemen. The ED is investigating a case related to money laundering.

The BJP alleges that the liquor policy, which caused a huge loss to the government exchequer, gave crores of profit to the liquor barons. The BJP has alleged that there is massive corruption behind the liquor policy and that it has turned Delhi into the capital of intoxication by allowing new liquor outlets to open across the city. Meanwhile, AAP has responded that the case is a political vendetta.
