Post wants to lift the 12.30 p.m. limit
It makes no difference to the readership when the post office posts the letters and newspapers, says post office boss Roberto Cirillo in an interview.
The delivery of daily newspapers on the day of publication ensures satisfied readers who can count on reading the latest newspaper every day. This is how the Post describes the benefits of deliveries from Tages-Anzeiger, Blick and Co. on its website. But the readership’s satisfaction could soon be dampened.
The post office should no longer have to deliver daily newspapers by 12:30 p.m., says post office boss Roberto Cirillo in a “Blick” interview published on Wednesday. “Today, many people are no longer home at lunchtime. It makes no difference to them when we drop off the letters and newspapers,” says Cirillo.
Cirillo conveys his views that postal services must move with the times and have the freedom to adapt to the needs of customers. Politicians must provide the postal service with an appropriate framework with such freedom of decision. “For example, the population and companies demand a secure and reliable postal service in digital form that is recognized in the same way as a registered letter,” said Cirillo.
The independent expert commission on basic postal services also concludes that the daily delivery of printed daily and weekly newspapers is a “discontinued model”. By 2030, content will primarily be offered and used online. A basic service mandate is therefore no longer justified.
