Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, but research does not know the exact reasons why nerve cells in the brain die as a result. Scientists at the University of Graz have now discovered that a specific protein, which actually has a protective function, promotes clumping. This leads to protein deposits, which are partly responsible for the death of the cells, the University of Graz said on Monday.
