Earlier this morning, Representative Lee was attacked with a weapon by an assailant while meeting with supporters after visiting the site of the new Gadeokdo Airport site in Gangseo-gu, Busan. Representative Lee was transported to Pusan National University Hospital by ambulance and helicopter and is receiving treatment.
Democratic Party leaders held a top-level meeting near Pusan National University Hospital and discussed future measures. Chief Spokesperson Kwon Chil-seung met with reporters at 12:22 and said, “This incident is a terrorist attack against Representative Lee Jae-myung and is a serious threat to democracy that should not occur under any circumstances.”
Senior Spokesperson Kwon said, “We are awaiting the opinion of the medical staff regarding Representative Lee’s condition,” and added, “We hope that the police will conduct a thorough and prompt investigation without any suspicion.” He said, “The party leadership will keep a close eye on the scene and devise countermeasures,” and added, “We will provide an additional briefing as soon as the opinions of the medical team come out.”
Regarding Representative Lee’s condition, he said, “The exact situation can be commented on after hearing the opinions of the medical staff.”
