Deng Pufang is Deng Xiaoping’s eldest son. He was born in 1944. He was persecuted during the Cultural Revolution, resulting in paralysis of his lower limbs. In 1975, he received a job opportunity and worked in the Administrative and Economic Management Division of the General Office of the Central Military Commission.
With Deng Xiaoping’s third comeback, Deng Pufang’s status has also been improved accordingly. In 1984, he was transferred to the position of vice chairman of the China Disabled Persons Welfare Foundation and became a deputy ministerial cadre. A year later, he was promoted to chairman; since 2006, he has been the president of the foundation.
In 1988, Deng Pufang founded the China Disabled Persons’ Federation and served as chairman of the first to fourth presidium for 20 years.
