The National Security Council (CNS) announced on Thursday May 5, 2022, 12 cases of Dengue fever including one death in Abidjan.
An epidemic of dengue fever, a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes, has been declared since March 22 in Côte d’Ivoire, mainly affecting Abidjan and killing one out of 12 recorded cases, the Ivorian Ministry of Health, Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday. Ten of the 12 cases come from Abidjan and two from the cities of Adiaké, according to the ministry, which specifies that this is the 5e dengue epidemic recorded in Côte d’Ivoire since 2008. However, the National Security Council reassures that measures have been taken to halt the progression of the disease. This involves the development of a multi-sectoral plan, which is currently being implemented.
The mode of transmission of dengue is similar to that of malaria, and the ongoing rainy season is facilitating mosquito breeding in Ivory Coast which experienced a similar dengue outbreak in 2019, with 130 cases and two deaths recorded. The government then launched a mosquito eradication and awareness campaign to counter the spread of this “re-emerging” disease on a global scale.

The President of the Republic congratulated the Minister in charge of Health and his collaborators for their responsiveness in the fight against dengue fever in Côte d’Ivoire. He instructed him to take all necessary measures to eradicate this epidemic in our country.

Regarding the Coronavirus disease, Pierre Dimba informed the CNS of the continuation of the vaccine supply process, with nearly 21 million doses received to date, out of more than 30 million doses ordered. He also reported that the current vaccination coverage rate in Greater Abidjan, which represents 95% of cases, is 50% for people aged 12 and over, and 37% for people who have received both doses.
