Denza Z9GT Australia Launch Pushed Back to 2027

The arrival of Australia’s fastest charging electric vehicle has been pushed back, with the 2026 Denza Z9GT now scheduled to land in showrooms during late the first quarter or early the second quarter of 2027, carsguide.com.au reported. The delay affects the high-performance four-door grand tourer as local engineering teams conduct extended testing to prepare the vehicle for Australian road conditions.

Local Testing Delays the Flagship Performance EV

The Denza Z9 GT had originally been slated to reach the Australian market before the end of 2026. However, Denza Australia pushed the launch timeline back to ensure the flagship model is properly calibrated for local driving conditions. Recent sightings of multiple test mules in Melbourne’s south-east and north-west suburbs—close to parent company BYD’s Australian headquarters—highlight the ongoing evaluation process.

A Denza Australia representative explained that the company chose not to rush the rollout of its premiere performance offering. Local engineering teams are continuously evaluating and fine-tuning both software and hardware configurations across BYD and Denza vehicles.

“We have teams of local engineers constantly evaluating and fine-tuning both software and hardware items on a range of BYD and Denza vehicles as part of our commitment to offer vehicles that are great to drive on our roads,”

a Denza Australia spokesperson told carsguide.com.au.

Pricing and High-End Competitors

While official pricing remains unconfirmed, carsguide.com.au reports that the Z9 GT will become the first Denza model in Australia to cross the $100,000 threshold. The performance EV will enter a niche segment populated by established luxury grand tourers.

Vehicle Model Estimated Starting Price (AUD)
2027 Denza Z9 GT Exceeds $100,000 (Unconfirmed)
Polestar 5 From $171,100
Porsche Taycan From $181,200
Audi e-tron GT From $209,900

Although exact standard equipment lists remain unfinalized, expected luxury inclusions feature air suspension, Nappa leather upholstery, massaging and ventilated seats, a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display, a premium stereo system, a built-in fridge, and 128-colour ambient lighting.

Ultra-Fast Charging Technology and Specifications

The Z9 GT introduces BYD’s blade battery 2.0 technology alongside an advanced ‘Flash’ charging capability. The system pairs a 122.5kWh battery with 1500kW DC charging support, allowing the vehicle to replenish its battery from 10 to 97 percent in just nine minutes.

That speed significantly outpaces Australia’s current fastest public charging infrastructure, which peaks at 400kW. Denza previously outlined a driving range of 1,036km under China’s CLTC protocol, a figure expected to adjust to approximately 820km under the stricter, real-world WLTP standard.

Underneath the body, three electric motors combine to deliver 850kW of power, launching the car from 0 to 100km/h in 2.7 seconds.

Infrastructure Strategy for Metropolitan Rollout

The initial deployment of the Flash charging network will remain relatively small, focusing primarily on metropolitan areas and select Denza dealerships. To manage the immense energy demand without straining local power grids, Denza Australia Chief Operating Officer Mark Harland previously explained the company’s hardware strategy to carsguide.com.au.

"It’s something we believe could truly transform the marketplace, allowing motorists to gain 400 or 500kms of range in the exact duration it takes to refuel at a standard service station. Harland noted that trials are underway in China to gauge grid effects, but the goal is to pair them with a storage battery to prevent any direct draw from the electrical grid," Harland stated.
