Getting up at dawn was not enough to avoid traffic jams in Gotthard on Saturday. At 8 a.m., the line of vehicles in front of the north entrance to the tunnel had already reached almost 12 kilometers, according to the TCS.

It took almost two hours to wait before crossing the Gotthard. A little further south, motorists had to turn off the engine of their vehicle again before going through customs at Chiasso-Brodega, where the TCS reported a column of some 2 km.
