The young deputy Pape Djibril Fall reaffirmed, Wednesday August 17, his anchoring in the opposition, even if he will not join the inter-coalition Yewwi Askan Wi-Wallu Senegal. Elected on July 31 at the head of the Les Servateurs/MPR coalition, which had obtained only one seat, the former journalist was one of the three independents who could rock the National Assembly. While Pape Diop joined the presidential camp Benno Bokk Yaakaar, giving it an absolute majority with 83 seats, the positioning of Pape Djibril Fall further narrows the gap between the opposition and power.

In front of a crowd of journalists and activists, small Senegalese flag in hand, Pape Djibril Fall reaffirmed his roots in the opposition, after criticizing the record of Macky Sall’s regime:

« We are in opposition and we are going to work precisely with the opposition. We will respect the will of the people. Those who voted for us did not vote for Yewwi Askan Wi, nor for Benno Bokk Yaakaar. And today, the Senegalese have shown a voice that wants to defend the general interest and the populations, by not being in political games or devices. »

The young deputy listed his priorities: to fight against the high cost of living, youth unemployment and social inequalities. Pape Djibril Fall also recalled the importance of food sovereignty, supporting farmers, fishermen and breeders:

« Today, the people want the action of the government to be controlled at the level of the AN. I think NA is important. This is where it all happens : the budget, politics… She deserves to be sent back to her primary vocation, the one she should never have left : controlling the action of the executive and evaluating public policies, while of course being a force for legislative proposals. »

The third independent deputy, Thierno Alassane Sallof the Alternative coalition for an assembly of rupture (AAR), had also placed itself in the opposition, while presenting itself as a third way against the two blocs which divide the National Assembly.
