DER/FJ: Opening Doors for Urban Cultures and Entrepreneurship – Guédiawaye Hip Hop Association

Dakar, June 27 (APS) – The president of the Guédiawaye Hip Hop association, Malal Almamy Talla, better known by the artist name of “Crazy sick”, praised the openness towards urban cultures of the General Delegation in rapid entrepreneurship for women and young people (DER / FJ), an orientation which contributes, he says, to dispelling the prejudices nourished with regard to this structure created in 2017 by the State of Senegal to support the carriers of projects.

The rapper artist says he found the DER “very open, very receptive”, noting that his association, Guédiawaye Hip Hop, “can open doors for the DER/FJ to facilitate its collaboration with all urban cultures”.

»In 2023 […]we considered it useful to approach the DER/FJ to give more opportunities to these young people not only from the suburbs of Dakar, but from other regions of Senegal”, he declared, Monday evening, during an annual event of the Guédiawaye Hip Hop association called “Night of projects”.

The Der / Fj has thus agreed to support this proposal, reported “Crazy sick” during the closing ceremony of the program in the premises of the Der at Point E, in Dakar.

This partnership with the DER/FJ is a form of openness because the administration is “very reticent” vis-à-vis culture, especially when it comes to the Hip Hop movement.

For Malal Talla, “Hip Hop culture is about entrepreneurship, but it has a genuinely protesting dimension which means that the partners often do not understand its actors”, he explained. “If however the partners understand the philosophy of the movement, collaboration is possible,” he added.

Malal Talla concedes “prejudices against the DER / FJ which sealed a possible collaboration”.

“We believed that the DER only supported people who are close to power, but by signing an agreement with the structure, we realized that this is not the case since it is not written anywhere that we must support the ruling party (…)”, he specified.

Malal Talla invited the artists to work with the delegation, “very attentive to concerns in the field of entrepreneurship, but above all of the cultural and creative industries”.

“We also suffered a little from the procedures, the administration must adapt, it is in 1960, we are in 2023”, he launched to the place of the director of the promotion of entrepreneurship , Mamadou Ndiaye.

For Malal Talla, “entrepreneurship means making money. We are autonomous and we regain our dignity, we are able to take charge of ourselves and carry out our own projects”, he underlined for young entrepreneurs who have benefited from training and are in the process of looking for financing and drawing up a business plan.

The DER/FJ has already accompanied the Guédiawaye Hip Hop association in the communication of the “Guédiawaye by rap” festival and the “Senegal talent campus” project, with a grant of 29 million FCFA for the purchase of equipment, reveals the ‘artist.
