For the moment, sales of Zen 4 processors are not at all at the level expected by AMD. Some are even starting to talk about failure for the Ryzen 7000s. During the last months of the year, the promotions have succeeded one another but nothing seems to change a basic trend for AMD: the “old” Ryzen 5000 range continues to sell better than the new Zen 4. In the next few hours, during CES, AMD and Intel will unveil new references for their range. The 65W variants of the non-X Ryzen 7000 series and 65W 13th Gen non-K series will therefore quickly find their way to market. Will these new, less expensive versions change the situation? Nothing is less certain and at the same time, AMD has taken conscience that the total cost of the platform to switch to Zen 4 was also a major obstacle. That’s why the reds try too to influence motherboard prices.
The end of the year has not changed anything for the Ryzen 7000
To get an idea, the good solution remains to “compile” the data on the number of processors sold each day that the German Mindfactory makes available to the public. If the market share in December is still mainly dominated by AMD, it is the Ryzen 5000 which allows this result.
We have mentioned it several times, it is indeed the 5800X3D which brings AMD’s sales to December again, a curiosity that must cause concern to the thinking heads of AMD. On the high end, Intel is in a strong position. We then understand the balancing act of the people at AMD who seem to be doomed to keep the Ryzen 5000 alive to maintain their domination in terms of market share. A situation that cannot last forever… Either the market rocks on its own, or we help it with a massive price drop. The next announcements will be scrutinized with interest.
