Details of a NASA spacecraft colliding with an asteroid traveling at 15,000 miles video
Within a few hours, a spacecraft belonging to the US Space Agency collides NASA Deliberately, an asteroid has a speed of about 15,000 miles per hour.
Such a mission may evoke memories of disastrous Hollywood films, such as My movie Armageddon or Deep Impact ، But this is very real and is actually part of the US space agency’s first ever planetary defense test.
Of course, there is no real danger on Earth, and this is just an experiment that, if successful, could one day pave the way for protecting our planet from catastrophic influence from space.
The Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) was launched last November, before a nearly year-long journey to smash into the small asteroid Demorphos, which orbits a larger planet called Didymos.
Didymos and Demorphos will make their closest approach to Earth in years in late September, passing about 6.7 million miles (10.8 million km) from our planet.
The collision is scheduled to occur on Monday (September 26) at 19:14 ET (00:14 GMT Tuesday), and can be watched live on NASA TV and the agency’s YouTube channel.
The Virtual Telescope Project in Rome has also collaborated with several observatories in South Africa, and will display the target asteroid in real time at the scheduled moment of impact.
