“Detroit Death Slide”: amusement park slide goes viral

This slide in Detroit makes visitors jump

Amusement parks are actually there to be fun for everyone. A slide in the USA in such a park somehow doesn’t look like it. The attraction in the city of Detroit, Michigan, has been given the name “Death Slide” on the Internet. Videos of the death slide are going viral on social media right now.

This is the Detroit Death Slide

At Belle Isle State Park in Detroit there is the Giant Slide, a slide that literally takes visitors’ shoes off. The attraction reopened after the pandemic, but was closed shortly thereafter by the operator, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) due to people getting injured. Meanwhile they waxed and repaired the slide. The attraction has been open again since mid-August.

The TikTok sound “Burn it!” has gone viral on the platform. The trend comes from this series.

This is what the slide looks like

The giant slide is for adults only and has several hills that make for high jumps. In the videos you can see how people slide down with a sack or a mat, which is supposed to help with speed. The problem: The slide has so many hills that people simply shoot too high into the air – and then fall badly. In viral videos, there are several people who lose their shoes or their cell phones.

That’s what the users say

Slide fans love the viral videos of the “Detroit Death Slide” and are totally shocked at the same time. “That people actually go down the slide when they already see their predecessors,” writes user Annie in the comments. Another fan suspects that a chiropractor is at the other end of the chute dealing his card. After all, it must really hurt to smack the hard metal.
