After seven years as head coach of the Detroit Red Wings, Jeff Blashill was fired on Saturday.

The organization released a short statement announcing general manager Steve Yzerman’s decision not to renew the head coach’s contract, as well as those of assistant coach Doug Houda and goalkeeper coach Jeff Salajko.

Blashill has just completed his seventh season as head coach and his 11e within the organization. As for Houda and Salajko, they had held their respective positions for six seasons.

No further details were provided. The Wings finished the season at 25e National League rank.

The team began its reconstruction in 2017, following being excluded from the playoffs for the first time in 25 years. Since then, she has still not taken part in the spring dance. This is the sixth year in a row that she has finished the season in the bottom six overall.
