The Minister of Health in the government appointed by the Libyan Parliament, Othman Abdel Jalil, announced, “There have been 3,000 dead so far due to Hurricane Daniel, and the missing are in the thousands. The number of victims is expected to reach 10,000, and the missing are regarding 100,000 people.”

He explained, in an interview with the Libyan Al-Massar channel, that “the situation in the city of Derna is becoming more tragic, and there are no final statistics on the number of victims,” noting that “many neighborhoods are inaccessible.” He called on “friendly countries” to help save “what remains” of Derna in the mountainous areas.

The designated Libyan government had announced that Derna had become a “disaster city,” as “the situation got out of control, and two dams collapsed as a result of the floods.”
