Developers are probably busy porting PSVR games

A little sobering confirmed Sony today, that there will be no general backwards compatibility with PlayStation VR2. Nevertheless, “tons” of games are to be ported.

Sony justifies the fact that the original PSVR games do not run on the new headset by saying that the development approach and the technologies are fundamentally different. As a result, developers have to adapt their games specifically for PlayStation VR2 or even develop them from scratch.

That is exactly the case, as is currently the case heard from industry circles. At least the most successful titles should find their way onto PlayStation VR2, even if no exact title has yet been named.

“As we discuss here, countless developers are working on PSVR2 versions of their PSVR1 games! :D”

However, the most successful PSVR games can still be counted on a few hands. The rhythm hit is probably right at the top here Beat Saberfollowed by Firewall Zero Hourhowever a direct successor gets, possibly Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Blood and Truth by Sony itself and Moss Book 2 would come into question. From then on it becomes difficult to identify real hits.

The original PSVR games all rely on Sony’s own tracking system, which itself was taken over by PlayStation Move at the time. The new Sense Controllers, on the other hand, use inside-out tracking that interacts with the cameras in the headset and the environment. In this respect, this conversion alone should represent a considerable development effort.

How many games will actually be implemented for PSVR 2 remains to be seen.
