DEWA Announces 5% Increase in Water Supply Connections in Dubai

Dubai > The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced that the number of water supply connections in Dubai has increased by five percent in the first half of 2023. DEWA CEO and MD Saeed Muhammad Al Tayer said that the number of water supply connections reached 10,23,079 in six months. It was 9,74,514 in the first half of 2022. In line with the Dubai Integrated Water Resources Management Strategy 2030, DEWA is undertaking comprehensive projects to ensure the sustainability of Dubai’s water resources. The Dubai Integrated Water Resources Management Strategy 2030 focuses on nurturing water resources and using better technologies. DEWA has been able to improve the efficiency of water supply connections and reduce water losses by using innovative ideas and technologies. In 1989, the loss of water supply in Dubai was 42.5 percent. However, Al Tayer also said that it was possible to reduce it to 2.2 percent in 2022. DEWA’s desalination capacity is 490 million imperial gallons per day. By 2030, desalination will transition 100 percent to a clean energy mix using renewable energy and waste heat.
