According to the latest figure published this year by health insurance 5.3% of French people suffer from diabetes. As we know, the prevalence of this disease continues to increase. Thus, in 2021, the International Diabetes Federation estimated the percentage of the world population affected at 10.5%, including 90% with type 2 diabetes. However, the latter is particularly influenced by our lifestyle habits, exercise physics and nutrition on the front line. Consequently, both constitute essential levers to prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes, or at least its complications.

The specific benefits of fruits and vegetables for diabetes

In order to help patients and their families implement them, Aprifel and the French Federation of Diabetics – who entered into a partnership in early 2023 – have designed a tool: the leaflet Eating fruits and vegetables when you are diabetic – How? For what? These are simple and easy-to-implement tips for integrating more fruits and vegetables into the diet of patients. In fact, fruits have long been banned due to their sugar content, thereby depriving patients of the many benefits they provide elsewhere. Hence the importance of reintroducing them into the diet and ultimately improving the patient’s health and facilitating the treatment of their diabetes.
