Didier Dédé, the president of l’association Adiag brings us the explanations on the week of the diabetes caravan:

“We organize various activities and screenings. This allows us to reach around 300 people for each operation of this type. The best contacts take place at the Thursday evening markets in Tonate and Saturday morning in Soula. »

There are not more people affected by diabetes in Macouria than elsewhere but we note: “a prevalence of populations lacking care, of giving up care. This is why we particularly target Native American villages and the Sablance district where there is a high level of immigration. »

This caravan will stop at the Matiti agricultural high school: “We have young people in the agricultural sector in front of us who are very demanding. They are very interested and sensitive to what concerns food, “Eating well” in general. We mainly do prevention and the association of health professionals DGO (Diabetes Guyana Obesity) who accompanies us manages the screenings. »

In Guyana, 8 out of 100 Guyanese are diabetic, and according to the ARS, one in two people are unaware of their illness. This shows the importance of carrying out preventive actions.
