Diamalaye in religious fervor

Dakar, Feb 22 (APS) – Thousands of Layene pilgrims gathered this Tuesday for the so-called ”yoor-yoor” ceremony in Yoff-Diamalaye, on the second and last day of the commemoration of the 143rd anniversary of the ‘Call from Seydina Limamou Lahi, found the APS.

The yoo-yoor, a ceremony commemorating the moment when the spiritual guide of the Layènes launched his call in 1883, took place in the presence of several grandsons of the spiritual guide of the Layènes, including Mame Libasse lahi and the coordinator of the said call, Mamadou Lamine Lahi.

Several delegations made up of religious dignitaries, political leaders and representatives of religious families attended this ceremony, which took place with great religious fervor. And as is customary, the pilgrims were all dressed in white, a color symbolizing purity.

Because of the large influx of the faithful, some of them might not have access to the place of Diamalaye.

The ceremony took place under the aegis of the general imam of the Layenes, Mamadou Mactar Lahi.

Seydina Limamou Lahi of her real Limamou Thiaw, fisherman and farmer from the Lébou de Yoff community, launched his Appeal on May 24, 1883. He died in 1909. He advocated a return to “rigorous Islam”.

This year’s edition focuses on the theme: ”Peace and development in the light of the teachings of Seydina Limamou Lahi”.
