Diamond League: Mujinga Kambundji 7th in 100m and 200m – rts.ch

Mujinga Kambundji is not yet able to compete with the best. Committed to the Diamond League meeting in Eugene where the World Championships will take place in July, the Bernese took 7th place in the 100m and 200m.

Mujinga Kambundji was credited with 11”11 over the queen distance in an extremely tough race but contested in cold weather. She paid a high price for a start that was too average. Victory went to Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah in 10”79. The Jamaican won by a margin of 13 hundredths in this 100m which saw 5 athletes under 11 seconds.

Mujinga Kambundji, indoor world champion in the 60m was then the only one to follow up with the 200m. She has nothing to be ashamed of with her time of 22”88, 0”47 behind the winner Shelly-Ann Fraser-Price.

Jonas Raess 13th in 1500m

Second Swiss in the running in this “Prefontaine Classic”, Jonas Raess had to settle for 13th and penultimate in the 1500m for his first outing of the season outdoors. The Zurich man (3’42”56), specialist in the 5000 and 10’000m, remained nearly 5 seconds from his personal best over the distance. Victory went to New Zealander Samuel Tanner (3’34”37).
