Diamondbacks beat Rockies 4-0 with sharp Gallen

Zac Gallen struck out seven in seven innings, Jose Herrera had a two-run double to drive in his first major league runs and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 4-0 on Sunday.

Ketel Marte had three hits to improve his batting average to .206 and the Diamondbacks took advantage of another wild start by Colorado’s German Marquez (0-3) to win for the ninth time in the last 12 games.

Gallen (2-0) gave up five hits, and Arizona’s bullpen completed the job a day following Mark Melancon gave up four runs in the ninth inning in a 4-1 loss.

The Rockies didn’t capitalize on an early opportunity once morest Gallen and finished with five hits in their second shutout of the season.

Gallen and fellow right-hander Merrill Kelly have shored up a starting rotation that has the league’s second-best ERA at 2.33 going into Sunday’s game.
